Gary Unmarried Nominated for PCA, Lead-In to Award Show
By admin | January 7, 2009

Gary Unmarried is not only nominated for “Favorite New TV Comedy” by fans for the People’s Choice Awards, but will also serve as the lead-in program. A brand spankin’ new Gary Unmarried will be shown at its regular time (8:30/7:30c), and the People’s Choice Awards will follow. Tonight, Gary tries to stop Allison and Vanessa from being such good friends, fearing that Allison will taint Vanessa’s impression of him. Should be a pretty funny one…
‘Gary’ is up against worse-performer “Worst Week”, and Kath & Kim (where did this show come from?) for Favorite New TV Comedy. It will be a surprise if Jay Mohr and cast/crew don’t take this award home.
Do you anticipate Gary Unmarried winning?
Speaking of Jay, check out this recent, very strange interview by Time Out New York.

With ‘Gary Unmarried,’ Paula Marshall overturns her rep as a show killer
By admin | December 19, 2008

Paula Marshall already knows what she’ll do if her new sitcom “Gary Unmarried” is renewed for a second season.
“I’m going to get T-shirts made that say ‘Paula Marshall is Not a Show Killer,’ ” Marshall said.
The actress has had an infamous string of shows that were canceled after one season or less, including “Out of Practice,” “Cursed,” “Snoops” and “Cupid.”
Understandably, the feisty Marshall - who plays Allison Brooks, the exasperated ex-wife of the title character in “Unmarried” - is not fond of being considered a cyanide pill to network TV shows.
“I’m trying to make a living and trying to pay my bills just like everybody else,” she said. “When I produce, write and star in a show, then you can blame me. When I’m fifth banana on ‘Out of Practice,’ I don’t think you can blame me. I do not think I’m bad luck. I think I’ve had bad luck.”

GARY UNMARRIED TO STAY ON CBS
By admin | December 1, 2008

CBS is sticking with its freshman comedies “Gary Unmarried” and “Worst Week,” ordering additional episodes of each.
“Gary” has been given the go ahead for seven additional episodes plus two scripts. Said order brings its season total to at least 20 installments.
“Week” then has been picked up for three more episodes, bringing its total to 16.
Both comedies, as is custom, opened the season with 13-episode commitments. The Eye laid the track for the additional orders last month when it asked for four more scripts of each show.
The Jay Mohr-led “Gary” drew a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 on Wednesday, once again building off its lead-in “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (2.0 rating).
As for “Week,” the show’s most recent broadcast on Monday drew a 2.9 rating in the key demographic, well short of its lead-in “Two and a Half Men” (4.9 rating). It’s believed that the shortened commitment to “Week” is designed to make room for the return of “Rules of Engagement” at midseason.

PAULA MARSHALL ON SEASON EXTENSION, WORK WITH JAY, AND HER CAREER
By admin | December 1, 2008

TVGuide.com: I know you were pulling hard for a full-season pick-up. How did it feel?
Paula Marshall: To be honest, it happened so late in the game, Jay and I were kinda mad! “What do you mean we don’t know yet?!” I was trying to see if I could get a new kitchen! We were certainly happy, but it was a little anticlimactic.
TVGuide.com: After the first few times Gary held onto or built on Old Christine’s audience, I started pestering CBS, but there never was any news.
Marshall: I know they were concerned about other shows - if they tell us, then they’ll have to tell them, which I get. But to make a new TV show and have more and more people turn you on each week is almost unheard of. We’re really fortunate to have this growing audience.
TVGuide.com: What’s nice is that versus the typical show about former marrieds, we see Gary and Allison bickering but we also get glimpses of why they once made sense together.
Marshall: That’s the loveliest part of the show. It’s not just the bitter bitch of an ex-wife, which gosh darn it someone else could play better than me. I wanted to have that aspect of why they were together and stayed together so long. I personally think they were young, dated, got pregnant and tried to make the best of it before realizing they were different people.
TVGuide.com: Should a small part of us be rooting for Gary and Allison to get back together?
Marshall: I think so, and yet it’s like when [Cheers'] Sam and Diane got together; it wasn’t as much fun. You can get together and argue — like [on Everybody Loves] Raymond, and I Love Lucy — but what’s happening these days is people get married, they have kids, they get divorced, and then they have to deal with it. A lot of my friends back home are like, “Yeah, I do that! The drop-offs are awful! You always forget something!” All those scenarios.
